Everyday at 7.30pm (from Dec. 01 to Dec. 31, 2006)Jaya Piritha and blessings for the New Year 2007.
NC Buddhist Viharaya will be conducting Jaya Piritha Se rmons everyday starting from December 1st, 2006 until new year to bring blessings for the upcomi ng New Year 2007.
On December 31st night there will be Jaya Piritha and special pooja starting at 11:30pm and finishing at 12:15am at the temple to bless everyone for the New Year.
Pirith water and Pirith strings will be offered to everyone followed by Kiribath and other Sri Lankan sweets. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend these sermons. This is a great Sri Lankan and Buddhist tradition to start the new year in a positive mind-set.
Those who cannot make it on 31st night are welcome to visit the temple any time during the day on 1st January for Pirith and blessings. Please note the Theros will be away for Dhanaya offering from 10am till 2pm. Also, on the 1st January,there will be a special "pooja" at 6:00pm at the temple to bring blessings for the New Year.

Saturday 09th December, 2006Unduvap Poya Ceremony
Unduvap poya signifies the arrival of the Bo-tree sapling. This was brought to Sri Lanka from India by Buddhist Theri Sanghamitta, and it is this ver y tree that is venerated by Buddhists in Anuradhapura. It is also the oldest documented tree in the world.

Saturday November 04th, 2006North Carolina Buddhist Vihar a first Katina Pinkama and Vihara opening ceremony was held on Saturday November 4th, 2006 at th e temple premises.

Katina Pinkama
Katina is one of the main festivals in the Buddhist calendar. The Katina ceremony was the culmi nation of the Vas season. At the end of three months a special robe known as the Katina was offe red to monks of every monastery which observed the Vas.

Saturday October 07th, 2006Vap Poya Ceremony
T he Vap Poya falls in the month of October and for this year it falls on Saturday the 7th of Octo ber. Vap poya signifies the conclusion of Lord Buddha.s preaching of the Abhidhamma scripture for three months to his mother in the Heavenly realm (devaloka).
It is also on this poya day that King Devanampiyatissa sent envoys to India to request from his friend, King Asoka, to send his daughter, Arahat Sanghamitta Theri, to Sri Lanka to establish the Bhikkhuni Sasana (Order of Nuns).

Dhammachakka Pavattana Sutraya sermons was be held at temple f or Vas season. This was started at 7:30pm everyday and lasted for about 45 minutes (including preparation and conclusion).

Binara Poya comes in the month of September. Binara Poya commemorates two important events at ou r Baggyavat Govthama Samma Samuddha's era. It Commemorates the Buddha's visit to Thusitha (Thavt isa) Devlova to preach Abhidhamma to his mother and celestial multitude. Also it commemorates th e inauguration of the Bhikkuni Sasana by the Buddha. The Vinaya Chullavagga account says that th e Maha Prajapathi Gothami, Buddha's maternal aunt who was also his foster mother came forward wi th a band of Sakyan ladies and asked the Buddha for ordination in the Bhikkuni Sangha. Let us co mmemorate the Binara Poya and inspire the greatness of Dhamma and understand what life is all about.
